About this deal

The fact that Hollywood has signed on to do a remake, however, indicates that, worthwhile or not, the industry takes its marketing potential very seriously. Roger's wife and art gallery owner, Diana ( Synnøve Macody Lund), introduces him to Clas Greve ( Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), a former executive for GPS tech company HOTE.

The novel is fast paced with a developed mystery that keeps the reader guessing until the culprit is revealed. Roger's girlfriend Diana is played by the beautiful Synnove Macody Lund, and even she brings a nice element of doubt to the story. This was not the usual interview format, this was not Cuté, Disc or any of the other stupid, useless questionnaires hatched up by a motley collection of, to varying extents, tone-deaf psychologists and human resource experts who themselves had nothing to offer. The following day, an associate in the robbery is discovered dead in his car, and Roger finds himself in the sights of another kind of headhunter. Pretty boy Aksel Hennie (ginger beauty on a par with Julian Rhind-Tutt), proves to be well cast in this frantic thriller. Rather than keep to the same characters he wrote stand alone novels, one of which was made into a film and became an award winning blockbuster. Nesbø's other books feature tough, hard-drinking Oslo police inspector Harry Hole (pronounced "Hurler"). The script is very distant from the Hollywood clichés and has its own essence of storytelling and sense of humor.

Speaking of the Cohen's, Hennie frequently reminded me of Steve Buscemi in Fargo which is praise from my point of view. A highly entertaining, first-rate crime novel, where Nesbo uses his entire register of narrative techniques and tricks to tell a story that is wilder and more zany than anything he has ever written before. Unfortunately, Roger's insecurities (he's only 5'6") lead him to seek a lifestyle well beyond his means. It was an expression my wife Diana said reminded her of a sluggish lion, a satiated lord and master.Jo Nesbo’s dark corporate thriller Headhunters, turned into the 2011 cult film of the same name, is getting a TV series adaptation. Like [Stieg] Larsson, Nesbo explores the darkest criminal minds with grim delight and puts his killers where you least expect to find them. Things go wrong - very, very wrong - and Roger finds himself in deep, deep sh** (literally as well as figuratively. Throw in the GPS technology he's familiar with from his previous job and he is a very well-equipped hunter.

This stand-alone gives us a brilliant array of variously flawed human beings involved in a tale of intricate plotting, excellent characterization, made-for-the-movies effects and images, and a multifaceted surprise ending. The Headhunters series is set in 2002, before the main events of Jo Nesbo’s novel and the film adaptation. Alfred Hitchcock relished the idea of playing a cinema audience like an orchestra, forcing us to feel sympathy for an unsympathetic character. This is even more impressive when one is an alcoholic crime novel police officer and the other an inventor in a series based for children. Headhunters has everything that makes a good crime novel: Strange murders, inventive disappearing acts and above all brilliant fraud for all you’re worth. It is the kind of film that has you glued to your seat to see what could possibly happen next to the main character. At an art opening one night he meets Clas Greve, who is not only the perfect candidate for a major CEO job, but also, perhaps, the answer to his financial woes.
