Protests start to happen and thinking violence may soon follow the school decides to have a debate with Ali on one side and his secret crush Sienna opposing. Then someone robs the Crosses’ home that night along with four other homes; the Crosses’ Christmas gifts are stolen.

I normally would not care, but I do not know if I feel super comfortable recommending this one to my 7th grade students. I also really enjoyed Alex's story arc on the side about his trial regarding possible misconduct/police brutality. James Patterson has a new treat for his young adult (read: teen) fans with this long-awaited debut featuring Ali Cross. Ali has a habit of sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night and he feels like Nana Mama always knows what he’s doing.Although I've never read any his Alex Cross novels, I thought writing a middle-grade mystery novel about Alex's son, Ali Cross, was such a fantastic idea. Since he can see all the sides of this tension and feels he sympathizes with them all he is being pulled apart.

While we may have aggravated our elders, we really never put ourselves in danger, which is what Ali Cross always manages to do. The second story is that his neighborhood is starting to get upset with the police after a rookie cop hits a young gang member who was involved in shooting. I also didn’t like how the girl he likes is nice to him at the beginning of the book, then blows him off and then polite again.Ali wants nothing more than to help find his close friend, but the case seems to be gathering little but a peppering of snow over the holiday season. A lot of little internal struggles from the main character kept the story going but nothing ‘‘twas there to make the novel stand out. An array of endearing supporting characters, coupled with a plot both grounded in stressful reality and uplifted by urban fantasy, lend the story its charm.

Ali Cross: Like Father, Like Son by James Patterson - Waterstones

The first book was about Ali's missing friend Gabe and the Second is about a girl he likes who gets shot in her mothers concert. The book is 5 star level excellent, but I was shocked and dismayed that a child in the book is asked if they know if the missing 10 YEAR OLD boy has a girlfriend, or a boyfriend. I know that in "coming of age" books, you will see profanity and intentional disobedience of young adult characters, but this was just so strikingly different than the previous two books. At one residence, the perpetrator broke in through a doggy door; this means the thief is probably a kid. It's funny that the Maximum Ride series (which is another series written by James Patterson) is aimed at the YA market, and contains way less swearing than this book.Alex Cross has taught his son the values he needs to solve the mystery: intelligence, persistence, and logic. Lady Annabel Goldsmith, who describes herself as an “incredible mother, rather a good mistress, but not a very good wife” to billionaire financier Sir James Goldsmith, is hosting a birthday party. Alex Cross, is facing assault charges for a recent arrest that left a suspect in a coma after a fall. Published in 2019, Ali Cross, by James Patterson, is the first in a series of mystery thrillers for middle-grade readers about a boy who follows in the footsteps of his famous father, Detective Alex Cross. It was approached in a way that didn't come across as being too heavy-handed on the social justice front, and it didn't completely overshadow the overarching storyline.
