Have you all the info about the used glass sorts, refraction index, the lens elements, the MTF curves 1:1 to the XF 27/2.8 (II) ? I am quite sure, it's *not* what you do think - and neither the less, it may look optically close enough, but from the inside, it's not. Ignore the the vertical smear at large apertures, this is is a sensor artifact called interline transfer smear and not a lens defect. The Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 R WR is a very compact "pancake" prime lens, weighing just 84g (2.9oz) and measuring a mere 23mm (0.9in) in length. Fujifilm has therefore managed to keep the compactness of the first 27mm by adding a diaphragm aperture ring and the WR, for your greatest happiness. For this, this lens is now very close to what I could call “perfect” in terms of its design: compact, perfectly built to face all circumstances, with good ergonomics, and versatile focal length.

If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 6" (15cm) wide on your screen, then the complete image printed at this same very high magnification would be about 21 × 31" (1.7 × 2.6 feet or 50 × 80 cm). With the two control rings covering most of the barrel, there’s not much to hold onto when switching the lens one and off the camera. So you have to train yourself to grab the fixed section with your fingertips, as otherwise you’ll find yourself spinning the aperture ring to one extreme or the other. Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 R WR: Our Verdict

The Fuji XF 27mm f/2.8 ASPH is a fantastic little lens. It does everything I'd need it to do with superb optics and tiny size. I often prefer fixed lenses over zooms.

It toggles between auto aperture control (the ring is set to A) or manual aperture control (the switch is set to one of the aperture values). Additionally, a tiny metal dome-shaped lens hood (LH-XF27) is also included in the box which screws into the 39mm filter threads on the front of the lens. If you shoot raw and use non-manufacturer software to process the raw data into images, that software is unlikely to be able to correct any distortion that may be corrected in-camera as JPGs. The Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 R WR is not a macro lens, with the close-focus point at 34cm from the sensor plane and a maximum magnification of 0.1x. Bokeh In my opinion, the main selling point for the 27mm lens is that it is both an ultra-compact pancake-style lensWhen used on the X-mount cameras with their 1.52x crop factor sensors, it sees the same angle of view as a 41mm lens sees when used on a 35mm camera. habitat! While this lens has no Optical Image Stabilization, some cameras like the X-S10 have built-in sensor-shift Image Stabilization (IS, VR (Vibration Reduction) or Steady Shot), which works really well with this lens. This makes the photographic process much more “pure” because it leaves the field free for what the photographer wants to express. But this lens is much more demanding because it requires significant rigour to obtain good shots. While I didn’t notice any vignetting in my images, scrolling between identical images of a wall shot at each aperture, I spotted slight changes to the corner brightness. The corner shading is gone by f/5.6, but it’s barely noticeable at f/2.8.

The 27mm f/2.8 is an all metal lens. While it's more crudely made than the more plasticy lenses from camera brands, it does feel like it will last longer.
