Description

The allure continues with Golden Leaf Printing that adds a touch of elegance, while Hand Embossing on the rounded spine lends an artistic flair. She also received many letters from grandmothers and great-grandmothers who remembered the nineteenth-century poem by William Allen Butler about the original Miss Flora McFlimsey, which was her inspiration for the Miss Flora stories. If the original book was published in multiple volumes then this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. Originally published in 1949, and then reprinted in this 1988 edition, Miss Flora McFlimsey's Christmas Eve is the first of nine picture-books devoted to the adventures of this sweet, lady-like doll, whose name is taken from William Allen Butler's nineteenth-century children's poem, Nothing to Wear.

Abandoned for many years in an attic, Miss Flora leads a lonely life, her only companion young Timothy Mouse, who visits her from time to time. Old toys and dolls fascinated her all her life, and over the years she acquired an extensive collection. The news stimulated Miss Flora to such an extent that she went downstairs and seated herself under the Christmas tree, old clothes, dust, and all.As this print on demand book is reprinted from a very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Like Miss Flora McFlimsey's Halloween (the only other Miss Flora book I have read thus far), this felt a little dated to me, but still very sweet. I’m not normally a sentimental person, but I’ve saved this little book for 68 years and through 15 moves.

Product Disclaimer: Kindly be informed that, owing to the inherent nature of leather as a natural material, minor discolorations or textural variations may be perceptible. In any case, I found this a fairly engaging tale, particularly as I enjoy doll stories that have a melancholy streak in them, and Miss Flora's early loneliness definitely fit the bill. It is a tale about an old doll in a toy cupboard in the attic who decides to see the Christmas Tree one more time thanks to the stories about it from Timothy Mouse.
