About this deal

Strand-on-the-Green in W4 with Kew Bridge crossing the River Thames in the background and a holder at Brentford Gasworks in the distance. When Father Cutler confronts Father Meldrum about the tape, Meldrum plays another tape that makes Jenny look like she is lying. A serious look at the theme of a respectable public person using their position to pass judgement on those they see as corrupt, done with elegance, wit and purposely indignant bad taste. The pair make a suicide pact so that they can be together for ever, but after Brabazon fatally stabs herself, Meldrum hesitates. The performance of Anthony Sharp in particular, as the immoral and internally tortured priest, was outstanding.

After finding out that Meldrum tapes his confessions and uses them for blackmail, Jenny runs away (again), and is overjoyed (? Recommended on the Frank Dicaro show (XM radio), this is one of the campy horror flicks which didn't start out to be that way. Then our star "Jenny" (Susan Penhaligon) meets up with her old school buddy (Norman Eshley) who is now a priest. I ended up being quite impressed with this one; it's one of those horror movies that tries to be about something more than just scaring people. As she makes her way thrugh the darkened flat, she sees a crucifix flash in the darkness, and runs away - straight into the arms of Bernard and Vanessa. He throws a pot of hot coffee in the face of Jenny's friend Bobby (John Yule), who he mistakes for Jenny's boyfriend, beats and burns Jenny's boyfriend Terry (Stuart Bevan) with a flaming incense burner and buries him in the church cemetery. Haven’t watched this in quite a long time and it was just the late night excursion into seedy giallo-esque trash that I needed. Meanwhile Jenny needs her flat keys back, so she goes to see Father Meldrum (alone, as you would), where he rather lets the cat out off the bag: "Are you afraid of the man who defiled you?

The story concerns a concerned young girl who goes to revelation at the local church; alas, the sexually-angry priest she acknowledges to becomes fascinated with her. The next day, Meldrum invites Jenny over to his presbytery, which he shares with his frail, bed-bound mother and his housekeeper, Miss Brabazon. With a whammy of gruesome, giallo-esque violence, firm footed pacing and an ending that shows just how mad Walker can get it's a standout in his filmography. Originally Peter Cushing was offered to play Father Meldrum and at the time there were some rumors that Cushing hated the script. After an uncomfortable encounter at the confessional, she is subsequently harassed, intimidated and threatened with extortion.

Best known as the home office minister in A Clockwork Orange, he had an extremely distinctive, instantly recognisable look and sound, with a ball-shaped head and massive hook nose, and the plummiest, most clipped English accent imaginable. The jury's still out on House Of Mortal Sin (aka The Confessional), but you can't deny that it's entertaining.Hearing that her friend Bernard has become a Catholic priest, Jenny attends church to seek him out but finds that the man taking confession is not Bernard, but the elderly Father Meldrum. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows. Some of my favourite moments in these films are simple domestic scenes showing the colours and decor of the time - real nostalgia. Add into the mix my favourite British scream queen, the uber-sexy Stephanie Beacham , as Penhaligon's flatmate who's herself busy tempting a younger colleague of Meldrums from the path of righteousness and the stage is set for a highly entertaining tale of repressed sexuality and Catholic guilt from the great Pete Walker!

well-executed and maintains a dark interest throughout, supported by interesting performances (especially Sheila Keith as Meldrum's devoted love). I may have remembered some of the movies more fondly than I should have and I blame this entirely on how much I love Sheila Keith. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait. In 1983, when Cushing acted in Walker's final film, House of the Long Shadows, Walker learned that Cushing actually liked the script, but had other film commitments. In 1983, when Cushing acted in Walker's final film, The House of Long Shadows, Walker learned that Cushing actually liked the script, but had other film commitments. For some strange reason, I always thought this was an alternate title for House of Whipcord so I never bothered to seek it out.
