Description

Limmy has struggled with depression, suicidal thoughts and alcoholism, and has discussed this on social media and in interviews. Come along to my first live thing since 2008 and my very first book reading for my very first book, Daft Wee Stories! All this is told and explained with Limmy's humour and self depricating wit included with in other daft anecdotes. It’s all told in an organic, uber-chatty way – ‘Anyway, what happened was this’ – as though it’s a transcribed audio-book.

Taking observational comedy to its core of simply looking, Limond’s sketches are known for deftly walking the knife’s edge between tragedy and laughter, often incorporating themes of trauma, suicide and violence. There's no way of describing Limmy's autobiography without using the title in some capacity because that is what it is. It reads like a chronological collection of anecdotes surrounding the theme of being a bit of a weirdo, and sometimes that’s just what we need: a reminder that other people are as wonky as we are.Because, as well as being a compelling first-person account of living with mental health issues, Surprisingly Down to Earth is, as the title promises, very funny. Not Limmy’s fault of course, but I view myself as someone who can appreciate crass humour or explicit sex stories - and the stuff in this book was just way too bleugh for me. Limmy is currently on a national book tour, where he’ll read excerpts from the book and answer audience questions.

It’s brilliant, he’s brilliant, I enjoyed every bit of this book (Audiobook that is) Definitely worth getting the audio book over the book itself. I never saw a thread on this and felt like it deserved its own thread outside the Limmy Appreciation Thread due to how hilarious it is. If I’m absent-minded or don’t fit in, it’s almost expected of me now, but I couldn’t get away with that in a real job. He does it without fail for anybody famous enough, and he has a large enough following that it occasionally gets picked up by news outlets and broadcast morosely in serious contexts. It’s a lot more honest and open than most celebrities’, goes in depth on accounts of his own mental state (the ‘evil voice inside his head’ and questioning whether or not he is a psychopath). His struggles with drink and drugs are spelt out in a matter-of-fact fashion, as are his brushes with the law and his early sexual experiences (many of which are awkward misfires rather than tales of carnal conquest). He tells a story of his younger days when he felt an evil presence in a poster of two sunflowers on the wall in a flat he shared with a friend. This isn't a self help book, nor does Limmy proclaim to be a kind of guru of mental wellness - He just explains it, warts and all and fully admits he doesn't understand it, it's just part of him. He said: “Maybe I’m a bit f***** up in the head and maybe that’s where my sense of humour comes from.

It grossed me out and honestly made me want to DNF, which takes a lot, but it just wasn’t enjoyable or funny or even cringy. When Limmy’s Show faded from our screens after three series, Internet veteran Brian Limond simply migrated online, the ideal medium for his distinctive approach to comedy. Enjoy the convenience of having The Sunday Post delivered as a digital ePaper straight to your smartphone, tablet or computer.

Playing games is one of my favourite things to do,” he says, “I want to keep streaming my gaming and chatting to people online for the rest of my life. One of the stable joys of lockdown has been devouring Limmy content, quoting nonsense like "they're playing a wee game of ludo" or "it is fucking 90! Atheists always seem to come out of religious arguments worse, in terms of how much it ruins their day.
