I'm very allured by psychedelia and many other releases of these spaceheads, but this is just different kind of music than majority of their releases.

I have always wanted this album, not because I am a fan of Hawkwind or Robert Calvert, but because I liked the idea of it and the artwork.Calvert calmly intones echoed lines over Rudolph’s swooping guitar lines AND his overdubbed, pumping bass riffs and Simon King’s ever-stamina drumming.

Recorded live at the Underworld in Camden, this concert finds the band performing Hawkwind’s classic 1974 behemoth Hall Of The Mountain Grill in its entirety plus additional fan favorites!If anyone had told me that a long time favourite of mine would be a concept album that takes the WW2 era Lockheed Starfighter Jet as its theme, I'd have thought them crackers. Rhythm section Lemmy and Simon King are present throughout, Lemmy's contribution can not be understated, hiss trademark rhythm bass ties the whole sound together magnificently. The spoken word parts do move the story along and are somewhat humorous in parts, but they also sadly reveal Calvert's crumbling mental state Oddly enough, Arthur Brown appears as the Gremlin who ultimately takes down the Starfighter's plane. For an album made in the early 70's it does not sound in the least dated, with Eno and Hawkwind's Del Dettmar on synths a track like 'Gremlins' (which also has a superbly effective guest vocal from the 'God of Hell fire' - Arthur Brown) moves into proto techno territory.

A concept album about a business deal between a megalomaniac German and an American salesman, in which the ultimate war plane is purchased , outfitted, and launched. The dirge-like “Catch A Falling Starfighter” is surrounded by ghostly electronics as Twink beats a funeral march over the assembled moaning of blackened Starfighter pilots.If you like everything about Hawkwind, and need to have as much as you can relating to the band, then this may be as essential to you, as it is to me. It is nowhere to be found on the album, but turned up years later on a crap Hawkwind collection with Calvert femme-vocalising. The sputtering and sprawling planes starts up the album, which portrays the West German minister of defense as a psychopath who's furious about the Luftwaffe.
